My 2009 visit to Wolfe Island

Vicki and I spent this year's August long weekend on Wolfe Island visiting Lady M. It started with our bus trip from Ottawa to Kingston, and then lunch at the Pilot's House for fabulous fish and chips ... it was much better than the fish and chips we ate in Dublin, which was rather disappointing. After the Pilot's House, we did some errands and took the ferry over to Wolfe Island, where Lady M was waiting for us. On our ferry ride, we were provided with a view of the Windmills that have been recently were erected on the Island. They look very elegant with their clean lines and long stury base.

The weekend flew by with stories, laughter, yummy delicious food, Guinness, and a mixture of red wine and pink lemonade. Saturday was one of the first sunny, beautiful days we have had in a while and it was noticeable by the number of sail boats out on the St. Lawrence River. Billowing sails could be seen all over the water. Lady M. took us out in her boat and rowed us across the river and back to the Island She rowed us into the marsh to see lily pads of all sizes and yellow and white water lilies, however, once the horse/deer flies started jumping in the boat, we high-tailed out of the marsh and went back to land. We spent the rest of the day sitting outside soaking up the sun and swimming ... mostly, floating around and looking at sails and blue skies. Sometime that night, it started to pour and the rain continued most of Sunday morning and early afternoon. Since the weather wasn't cooperating, Lady M took us for a drive around the Island to see the windmills up close. Coming across the ferry, the windmills look to be evenly spaced and are very quiet, but seeing them up close, was entirely different, they are rather close together (I heard 300 metres apart from one another) and you can hear the blades cutting through the air.

Once again, Lady M out did herself because it was another great weekend spent with sumptuous food and spectacular company.
